1890 Fund for Workers, Farmers, and Small Businesses
Justice Catalyst Access Fund (“JCAF”) announces a special fund to support high-impact strategic litigation to protect workers, small businesses, and farmers from corporate consolidation, surveillance, and abuses of power.
The fund is inspired by the movement that began with the passage of the Sherman Act in 1890. Fueled by an extraordinary coalition of farmers, organized labor, and small retailers, that movement built an entire legal architecture to check corporate power.
JCAF is seeking co-funders. JCAF has committed to $2.5 million of its own funds and the first $2 million raised for this special fund will also be matched. Please contact accessfund@justicecatalyst.org for more information.
The Problem:
This is a new Gilded Age. Yet while dozens of national public interest organizations defend people in court against government overreach, far too few represent workers, farmers, and small businesses against the corporations that dominate their lives. There is a simple reason for this litigation gap: Litigation against companies is expensive, and the resources to support that work are limited.
The Solution:
JCAF is seeking to raise $25 million to provide financial support for strategic litigation on behalf of workers, small business and farmers and to build the critical infrastructure that is needed at this moment.
